How to get to the Iberá Wetlands

You do not arrive at a single place in the Iberá: you enter through one of its portals, each on a different side of the wetlands. The first step is choosing which one, and then looking at the last stretch, which is what shapes the trip.

Not sure which portal to enter by?

The app suggests two based on where you are coming from and what you want to see, and tells you why.

Where are you coming from

From Buenos Aires

By coach, from Retiro to Mercedes, and from there to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini on IberáBus or with a transfer (120 km, about 3 hours). By plane, to Corrientes or Posadas, and from the airport a private transfer to the portal. By car, you go in through Mercedes towards Pellegrini and Uguay, or from the Ituzaingó side towards Cambyretá and Galarza.

From Corrientes city

It has an airport and is the gateway to the western and northern portals: San Nicolás, Mburucuyá, Río Corriente and Carambola are between 165 and 190 km away. Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, on the other hand, is 360 km away.

From Posadas or Iguazú

Mercedes, the southern base town

Transfers to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini and the southern portals leave from Mercedes. IberáBus links Mercedes and Pellegrini on some days of the week: schedules change, check them on its listing.

Before you set out. Gravel and dirt roads change with the rain. Road conditions shows how much it rained this week over each portal, and Practical info has the advance notices, park hours and services at each one.

In much of the Esteros there is no signal: the app saves the map, the listings and the phone numbers to use them offline.
