Fauna de los Esteros del Iberá

Wildlife of the Iberá Wetlands

The Iberá is one of the best places in South America to see wildlife in the wild. Jaguar, giant anteater and red-and-green macaw came back through rewilding; capybaras, marsh deer and caimans are all but guaranteed. This is the species guide, with where and when to find each one.

The Iberá Wetlands protect more than 222 wildlife species across almost 1,300,000 hectares of lagoons, marshes, wetlands and palm groves. The mix of water, grassland and forest sustains a density of animals hard to find anywhere else in the country: that is why the Iberá is today a world-class wildlife watching destination.

Each profile covers the species' behaviour, the best time of year and time of day to see it, and the gateways of the Great Park where it lives. To plan the outing and contact the providers at each gateway, there is the Iberá Experience app.
