It is the terror of the tetras: a silver torpedo chasing them through open water with a mouth bristling with teeth. Anglers know it well because it attacks almost any small bait, with a boldness out of all proportion to its size.
Behaviour
A daytime midwater hunter. It patrols in small groups and charges schools of tetras at full speed.
How and when to see it
All year round. In clear water you can watch it patrolling from piers and walkways; in the lagoons it often takes fishing lines.
