Wildlife of Portal San Nicolás

Present year round at all 10 portals of the park. Sightings practically guaranteed from boats, kayaks and boardwalks. At Portal Laguna Iberá they swim by the dozen around the pier. Also very frequent at Carambola (calm streams), San Nicolás (boarding coves) and Galarza.

Year round. Sightings are magical, chance events: slowly crossing an internal track in mid-morning or resting curled into a ball of fur in the fork of a tree. Portals Laguna Iberá and San Nicolás are the most productive.

Year round. Encounters are by chance: crossing vehicle tracks at dawn or dusk, or silhouetted on a rise. Driving the internal tracks with close visual attention is the best strategy. Portals Cambyretá and San Nicolás have the most frequent records.

Dawn along the edges of the wetland. Portals Uguay, San Nicolás and Laguna Iberá.

Spring and summer during the breeding season. Mornings in the tall grasslands of Portals San Nicolás and Cambyretá.

Mornings and afternoons at the edges of the woodland. Portals San Nicolás and Carambola.

Year-round in the dry Chaco woodland. Portal San Nicolás and Mburucuyá are the best sites. The species is uncommon: every sighting is a privilege.

A visitor of the cold months (autumn and winter) in the tall grasslands and reed beds. Portal San Nicolás and the grassland areas of Mburucuyá are the best sites.
