Santo Tomé was born from the reduction of Santo Tomé del Tapé, founded by the Jesuits on July 13, 1632. The Pablo Argilaga Regional Museum, created in 1963, preserves pieces from that period: remains of columns, stone carvings, a sundial, and a baptismal font.
The Inmaculada Concepción cathedral preserves the baptismal font from the ancient Guaraní reduction. Santo Tomé, together with Yapeyú, La Cruz, and San Carlos, makes up the Route of the Jesuits, and is the access city to Galarza Portal.
