Yapeyú was the reduction of Our Lady of the Holy Kings, founded by the Jesuits on February 4, 1627 on the banks of the Uruguay River. There, on February 25, 1778, José Francisco de San Martín was born, son of Lieutenant Governor Juan de San Martín.
The Templete, a memorial pavilion built between 1925 and 1938, protects the remains of the birthplace of the national hero. The town also preserves the Sanmartinian Museum and vestiges of the ancient mission, in the heart of the Jesuit-Guaraní Corridor.
