Chamamé, music and dance of the Litoral, was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2020. Mburucuyá is recognized as the 'Cradle of Chamamé': its National Festival of Authentic Traditional Chamamé is the celebration most faithful to the genre's roots, far from the commercial scale of the great festivals.
The festival was born on November 22, 1945 on the 'La Querencia' stage, when accordionist Eustaquio Miño and 'Tito' Miqueri called the local musicians to celebrate the day of Santa Cecilia, patron saint of music. In 2006 Mburucuyá became home to the national festival. Today it takes place during three nights at the Eustaquio Miño Amphitheater, on the shores of Laguna Limpia, on the 'Tito Miqueri' stage.
It is the land of great chamameceros, like Salvador 'Gigante' Miqueri, whose legacy the town keeps alive every summer.
