Danish botanist Troels Myndel Pedersen and his wife Nina Sinding donated in 1991 the 17,682 hectares of the Santa Teresa and Santa María estates that in 2001 gave origin to Mburucuyá National Park, the province's first. There, for decades, Pedersen had assembled a herbarium with thousands of species.
The park protects yatay palm groves, grasslands, wetlands and gallery forest, with self-guided trails and rich bird life. The old estate house and its surroundings tell this story of science and conservation.
