Where the crab-eating fox chooses the thicket, the pampas fox chooses the grassland: it hunts rodents, insects and birds in the open, adding fruit when available. Having both foxes in the Iberá is a luxury for comparison: the pampas fox is paler, more slender and far more confident.
Behaviour
Most active at dawn and dusk, though in quiet areas it moves about by day. It marks its territory and tends to repeat the same trails.
How and when to see it
Dawn and dusk on the roads and verges of the grassland gateways. It often stops for a look before trotting off.
