It walks branch by branch with slow, deliberate movements, gripping like a miniature primate. The vivid flank colours stay hidden at rest and burst out when it moves, a flash that confuses predators. It smears its body with a waxy secretion to avoid drying out.
Behaviour
Nocturnal and arboreal. It moves slowly through vegetation hunting insects, trusting its camouflage more than flight.

Warm, humid nights from October to March. Check shrubs and rushes at the water's edge with a torch.
