It is the hawk Ibera visitors see most: rufous-cinnamon with fine barring on the breast, always exposed on posts and low trees. When a fire or a plough flushes insects and rodents, it is among the first to arrive and collect the harvest, even walking through the grass like a giant hen.
Behaviour
It perches low and in the open, glides at low height and finishes the hunt on the ground. It eats reptiles, rodents, crabs and large insects.
How and when to see it
All year round in grassland and savanna. Scan the fence posts of any rural road: sooner or later one appears.
