It is a distant relative of the kangaroos: the young are born tiny and finish developing in their mother's pouch, later riding on her back. It has a remarkable resistance to pit viper venom, a superpower science is studying. In extreme danger, it plays dead.
Behaviour
Nocturnal and a climber. A total omnivore: fruit, insects, eggs and human leftovers. It often settles near houses and lodges.
How and when to see it
At night, all year round. Scan the trees near the lodge lights with a torch, and the wires and roofs of the villages.
