Its wing coverts look spattered with white paint, a spotting no other Argentine pigeon has. It prefers open country and tree stands to closed forest, and often mixes into flocks with the picazuro: the game is telling them apart at a glance.
Behaviour
Flocks in tall trees and posts, dropping to the ground to eat seeds. Strong, direct flight.
How and when to see it
All year round in tree stands, palm groves and field edges. With binoculars, the white spotting gives it away instantly.
