It never strays from the water: it hunts mosquitoes and midges in short flights from rushes, stones and bankside branches. The ever-moving tail, fanning open and shut, is its signature. It is one of the easiest birds to watch up close from the walkways.
Behaviour
Confiding and territorial, it flutters centimetres above the water and always returns to the same perches.
