Unicolored Blackbird

Agelasticus cyanopus

The blackbird of the rushes: the male is all black, the female yellowish and streaked, so different they look like two species.

It lives among reeds and rushes at the water's edge. The pair puzzles anyone new to birding: he jet black, she painted in yellow and brown. It sings clinging to a rush, swaying with the wind.

Behaviour

It moves in pairs or small groups through the marsh vegetation, looking for insects and seeds near the water.

How and when to see it

All year round along the vegetated edges of lagoons and marshes. Easy from the walkways of Carlos Pellegrini.
