Wherever there is tall, wet grassland there are pampa-finches. The pair defends its patch all year and announces it by duetting, each singing a part, so coordinated they sound like one bird. The orange bill shows from far away.
Behaviour
It climbs to the top of the tussocks to sing and keep watch, and drops down to feed on seeds and insects in the grass.
How and when to see it
All year round, with more song in spring. Walk roadsides with tall grass and wait for one to climb a tussock.
