The smallest grassland harrier in Iberá. The adult male is pearl-gray on the back and breast, white on the belly with fine orange bars, and the wingtips are black. The female is brown-streaked with the white rump characteristic of the genus Circus. It measures 38 to 45 cm. It prefers the dry grasslands and high fields on the edge of Iberá, in contrast to the Long-winged Harrier, which prefers the marshes.
Behaviour
It flies low over dry grasslands and grazing fields with a slow, sinuous flight, using its keen hearing to detect rodents and lizards among the clumps of grass. It hunts rats, cavies, small lizards and small birds.

A scarce and local visitor in the dry grasslands of Portal Mburucuyá and San Nicolás.
