A furnariid of 14 to 15 cm with brown plumage above and paler below. The throat has a very characteristic reddish or orange patch. The crown is streaked brown and whitish. The tail is long and pointed. The bill is medium and curved. It inhabits the dry Chaco woodland with espinillo acacias, quebracho trees and thorny shrubs. It builds spherical stick nests in the shrubs, similar in concept to the Rufous Hornero's nest but made of twigs.
Behaviour
Solitary or in pairs. It moves among the low and middle branches of the thorny woodland, looking for insects. Harder to see than to hear: its song is a series of high, repeated notes. The stick nest with a side entrance is easy to find once you know where to look in the Chaco shrubs.
How and when to see it
Year round in the portals with Chaco woodland. Portal San Nicolás and the dry zone of Mburucuyá.
