A furnariid of 13 to 16 cm with an olive-brown back, a streaked crown and rufous wings, and a very prominent white supercilium that contrasts with a dark eye-line. The throat and breast are white or whitish. The tail is long and rufous. The bill is thin and slightly curved. It inhabits the understory of the Chaco woodland, the edges of gallery forest and shrubby thickets. Unlike the Yellow-chinned Spinetail, it does not frequent reedbeds but rather dry vegetation.
Behaviour
Active and not very elusive. It moves among the low and middle branches of the woodland and the forest understory, looking for insects and spiders on the bark and leaves. Its song is a sequence of descending notes, an accelerating "tri-tri-tri" or "ti-ti-ti." It frequently joins mixed flocks with other understory insectivores.
How and when to see it
