An ovenbird (furnariid) of 17 to 19 cm with brown upperparts and whitish underparts with brown streaks on the neck, breast and flanks that give it its name. The crown is slightly rufous. The tail is reddish brown. The bill is medium. It inhabits scrub and marsh edges, almost always near water, along watercourses and gallery forest. It is strongly tied to wet environments.
Behaviour
Solitary or in pairs. It builds spherical stick nests in the shrubs and trees of the woodland. It feeds on insects and larvae. Its song is a series of descending notes. Somewhat less conspicuous than the larger thornbird but similar in behavior.
How and when to see it
Year round in marshes, gallery forest edges and scrub near the water. Portal San Antonio and Mburucuyá.
