A saltator of 20 to 22 cm with uniform gray upperparts. The neck and breast have a well-marked black band that resembles a collar. The breast, belly and flanks are a uniform cinnamon. The bill is robust, bright orange and very striking. The supercilium is white. It inhabits the Chaco woodland, the espinal and the edges of the gallery forest. The orange bill makes it unmistakable.
Behaviour
Solitary or in pairs. It eats fruit, seeds and buds from the woodland and shrubs. It also catches some insects. It sings from high exposed perches with a loud, varied voice, with phrases of 3 to 5 notes. The bright orange bill is one of the most striking traits among the woodland's birdlife.

Year-round in the Chaco woodland and forest edges. The powerful song and the orange bill make it easy to find.
