Against the light it looks like just another bird, but with the sun on it, it ignites: the whole plumage carries a bronzed golden wash that names it. It is the most common hummingbird in the Ibera and the first to adopt the sugar-water feeders at the lodges.
Behaviour
It defends its flowers with strafing flights and squeaks. Like every hummingbird, it visits hundreds of flowers a day.
How and when to see it
All year round. In lodge gardens and around any flowering plant, especially salvias and ceibo trees.
