A bird of about 15 cm with strongly contrasting and striking plumage. The crown and back are brownish-gray. The supercilium, the malar moustache and the throat are white. The belly, breast and flanks are a very intense bright cinnamon-reddish. The tail is black with white tips. The bill is short and black. It inhabits reed beds, bulrush stands and humid meadows near water. The name "sietevestidos" (seven-dressed) refers to its multicolored pattern.
Behaviour
Active and not very elusive. It hops among the shrubs and the ground searching for seeds and insects. It sings from high exposed perches with a melodious voice. The contrast of black and cinnamon is very striking when the bird comes into the open. It moves in pairs or small groups.
