A tyrant flycatcher of 17 to 18 cm with almost entirely white plumage, except for the tips of the wings and the tail, which are black. The bill is black and robust. The eyes are dark. The black-and-white contrast is very striking. It inhabits open fields, grasslands and woodland edges with scattered trees. It is one of the easiest birds to see in the Iberá because of its contrasting white plumage and its habit of perching in exposed places.
Behaviour
Solitary or in pairs. It perches very upright on posts, branches, fences and protruding stems, from where it watches the ground. On spotting an insect, it drops down to seize it on the ground and returns to the same perch. The song is simple. Very confiding and easily photographed.
How and when to see it
Year-round. Ubiquitous in the grasslands and fields of every portal. One of the most photogenic birds of the Iberá thanks to its pure white plumage.
