A tyrant flycatcher of 14 to 16 cm. The male is entirely glossy black with an unmistakable bright sky-blue bill, unique among the tyrant flycatchers of the Iberá. The female is brown with dark streaks on the breast and a grayer bill. The eyes are red. It inhabits the edges of gallery forest and woodland near the water, where it perches on the low and middle branches.
Behaviour
Solitary or in pairs. It perches on low or mid-level branches in the forest and makes short sallies to catch insects in the air or on the leaves. The song is a soft whistle or a series of simple notes. More forest-bound than most of the tyrant flycatchers of the Iberá.
How and when to see it
All year round in the portals with gallery forest, with more records in the cold months. The male is easy to spot thanks to the contrast of its pale blue bill against the black plumage.
