A medium-sized bird, 14 to 16 cm. The male has an olive-green back, black wings and tail with white edges, a black cap over the grey head, a whitish throat, a yellow breast, and a whitish belly. The female has an olive-brown back, brown wings with rufous edges and a yellowish belly. The bill is short and stout. It inhabits the canopy and high understory of the gallery forest and the woodland with medium-sized trees.
Behaviour
Solitary or in pairs. It moves through the canopy and high understory, perching on exposed branches from where it makes short sallies to catch insects in the foliage or in the air. The song is a series of soft notes. It joins the mixed flocks of canopy insectivores.
How and when to see it
Year-round in the portals with gallery forest. The male is very striking and easy to see thanks to its green-and-yellow plumage.
