The Argentine parakeet, known worldwide as the "monk parakeet." Bright green plumage on the back, with the forehead, crown, cheeks, neck and breast a very characteristic pale gray. The bill is orange. The tail is long and blue-green. It measures 29 to 31 cm. Very intelligent and social, with a remarkable ability to adapt to urban and rural settings. It is one of the very few parrots in the world that builds stick nests rather than nesting in cavities.
Behaviour
Extremely social and noisy. It builds massive communal nests of branches and sticks that can house dozens of pairs. Each pair has its own access tunnel within the shared structure. It feeds on seeds, fruit, flowers and shoots. Very vocal at all times.
