It is one of Argentina's largest pigeons and its name comes from the Guarani pykasuro. The pale-edged neck feathers form scaling that shines in the sun. When it bursts into flight from a tree, the crack of its wings carries fifty metres.
Behaviour
In pairs or flocks through woodland and farmland. It eats seeds and shoots, on the ground or up in the trees.
How and when to see it
All year round. At dusk the flocks cross towards their roosts, a quiet and punctual show.
