One of the most beautiful tropical parulas of the Argentine subtropical forest. The male has a blue-gray back, a face with a dark mask and a yellow throat, and a bright yellow-orange breast and belly. The wings have two white wing bars. The female has the same pattern but more muted. It measures 10 to 11 cm. It lives in gallery forest and dense subtropical woodland, especially the low and middle strata with tangled vegetation.
Behaviour
Very active and hard to follow. It moves nimbly among the thin branches of the understory, inspecting leaves and twigs for small insects, spiders and tiny larvae. It frequently joins the mixed flocks of understory insectivores. The song is a thin, ascending buzz or trill.
How and when to see it
Year-round in the portals with gallery forest and subtropical woodland. Easier to see when it joins mixed flocks.
