One of the most common and visible rails of the Iberá. Black plumage with the flanks adorned by a very striking white line. The bill is red with a yellow tip, and the frontal shield is bright red. The legs are greenish yellow with red garters on the tarsi. It measures 30 to 37 cm. It swims easily in open water and also walks over floating vegetation. Very tolerant of human presence in public-use areas.
