The most frequent and visible raptor in all the woodlands and savannas of Iberá. Brown plumage on the back, a gray head and a breast finely barred in orange and white. The tail shows well-defined light and dark bands. Its eyes are yellow-orange. It measures 30 to 38 cm. Completely indifferent to human presence: it perches on low branches, fence posts or even on the pedestrian walkways of the portals while the tourist photographs it from a meter and a half away.
Behaviour
Opportunistic and highly adaptable. It hunts from low perches, dropping onto lizards, frogs, large insects, small snakes, cavies and mice. It is frequently seen walking on the ground looking for prey. Its sharp, repetitive, descending call is one of the most constant sounds of the Corrientes woodland.

Year round. Without doubt the easiest raptor to photograph in the Iberá, present at all the portals.
