The most common thrush of northeastern Argentina. The plumage on the back is uniformly brown. The throat is whitish with dark streaks. The belly is whitish. The bill is orange at the base and dark at the tip. The eyes have an orange eye-ring. It measures 21 to 23 cm. It inhabits gallery forest, subtropical woodland and the wooded environments of Iberá. Its song at daybreak, a series of flute-like musical phrases, is one of the most beautiful auditory experiences in the park.
Behaviour
Solitary. It feeds on the ground and among the branches, searching for fruit, earthworms, insects and small invertebrates. It taps the ground with its bill to uncover earthworms beneath the leaves. The male's song is extraordinarily musical and varied, with long, clear phrases that carry far in the forest dawn.
How and when to see it
Year-round. Dawn in the gallery forests of Portal Galarza and San Antonio is the best time to hear the song.
