Its song opens the day: it starts in half-darkness, before any other bird, with musical phrases that sound rehearsed. It hunts earthworms in classic thrush style, running a few steps, stopping dead and tilting its head to listen to the ground.
Behaviour
It hops through grass and leaf litter, alone or in pairs. It quickly gets used to people in gardens and lodges.
How and when to see it
All year round; its hours are dawn and dusk. In spring it also sings on moonlit nights.
