A jaguar was seen twice near Concepción in the same week
Both sightings happened outside the park, in the municipality of Concepción del Yaguareté
Corá. The first was near the Batel bridge and was reported by a group of schoolteachers. The
second was on Thursday 21 August at the Pairirí settlement, and was caught on video.
There is no way to tell whether it was the same animal in both cases.
What it means if you are heading there
Concepción is the gateway to Portal Carambola. Running into a jaguar is still very
unlikely, but the Soy Guardián del Iberá programme published what to do if it happens:
keep your distance, avoid sudden movements, never feed wildlife, let the animal carry on
its way and report the sighting to the monitoring teams.

A jaguar had to climb a tree to escape a herd of peccaries
It happened at Rincón del Socorro, inside the wetlands. The jaguar is called Jasy'i and the
video of the scene travelled across the country.
Emiliano Donadío, scientific director of Fundación Rewilding Argentina, explained why a
predator ends up in a tree: jaguars hunt peccaries by surprise, but a herd of peccaries
fights back and is dangerous.
Why it is more than a funny video
A scene like this can only happen once both species share the same ground again. The jaguar
reintroduction project in Iberá started in 2021 with eight animals released, and there are
now more than 50 in the area, including animals born in the wild.

Expo Iberá, two days in Concepción del Yaguareté Corá
On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, Concepción brings together the region's tourism,
farming and culture. There will be stands from tourism operators, a food area with local
businesses and restaurants, talks and panels on biodiversity, conservation and sustainable
tourism, business meetings and live craft demonstrations.
Sunday also has a mbaipy contest, the traditional dish of Corrientes.
What it means if you are heading there
If you are travelling that weekend, Concepción will be far busier than usual, and it is a
good chance to meet local operators in one place. The published reports do not say whether
you need to register or who is organising it, so it is worth checking before you build a
trip around the event.
